Volunteer programs

Global Education
As a volunteer in the Program of Global Education you are creating a possibility for the children of Xecanchavox to get intercultural experiences and learn a more global perspective on the world.

Within this program we want to emphasize multicultural learning and cultural exchange. During the program children learn to understand cultural diversity and different ways of life. The children are inspired to explore the world around them in ways which are available in their own lives. It's a possibilty to present your home country, culture and language. You are working individually or together with other volunteers.

Teaching English
As a volunteer in teaching English you will get the chance to plan and organise classes for children at the primary and secondary schools. 

You will teach basic English and help the students to improve their comprehension and conversational skills as well as their pronunciation in English. Depending on the students' age group, their interests and level of English you might also include literature or cultural education to the classes.

Volunteers will also be able to provide theoretical and practical assistance and aide the teachers as they interact with the students.

Dental Clinics
Dental clinics for the children of Xecanchavox are held bi-annually. Kamalbe partners with Universidad Mariano Galvez to teach students about dental hygiene, provide clean teeth and preform extractions when necessary.

Volunteers with this program have the opportunity to lead games and activities for children to teach them how to get their teeth clean properly, also assisting Mariano Galvez dental students with cleanings and extractions (bringing supplies, holding lights, helping with recovery, etc), or to participate in fundraising efforts with Kamalbe.

Help us with what you are GOOD at
As a volunteer at Kamalbe you may also plan your own projects with the help of the Kamalbe staff. Earlier the volunteers have participated in different kind of activities in the community, such as: 

• Organizing and developing educational and creative activities
• Supporting teachers and curriculum development
• Participating in routine maintenance and constructions

Other examples

• Law: Human rights, women’s rights, worker’s rights, land issues
• Health: Nutrition, first aid, medicinal plants, sanitary food practices, hygiene, preventative care for illness and infections, sexual education
• Finance: Personal finance, business finance, accounting, entrepreneurship​
• Public Relations and fundraising
• Video Editing and video content creation

Volunteer options from your home

Board Committee Member: Lend us your legal, financial, or fundraising expertise by joining a Board Committee.

Technical Assistance Volunteer: Help us manage our website, design electronic documents, or troubleshoot computer problems. If you have experience with Dreamweaver, or you love working with iMovie or Final Cut, we need your expertise!

PR Assistant: Create and distribute news articles and press releases to get the word out about Kamalbe’s work.

Translators: Provide occasional translation services to the organization. If you are fluent in Spanish and English and you have a computer, you can even volunteer from  home! (Preference will be given to volunteers familiar with the intricacies of Guatemalan   Spanish.)
