The Kamalbe Project is a program with big dreams! With your help we can support more children in the poor rural communities of the Guatemala Highlands. Whether you can make a small one time donation, or you're able to become a monthly supporter, you'll be contributing to a better future for impoverished children Operating Funds We welcome donations that are not earmarked for a specific program - they help us keep the lights on! However, we understand that many donors wish to support a particular project so we have provided information below on our four main goals at this time:
Please click on the donate button to support our Children Dental Mobile program
. Clotilde Dental Program - Our Mobile Dental Clinic One of Kamalbe's goals is reducing the number of children with dental cavities and assisting local schools with their dental hygine education. We are not only trying to avoid dental problems, but also create a healthy culture through educational programs for the kids by teaching how important it is to take care of their own teeth and general health. Our free services are fundamental to assist dental health as well as reduce costs for rural families so that this money can instead be put towards feeding their family. Kamalbe has created the Dental Mobile Clinics to provide dental care in the community, so health problems are detected at an early stage and are accompanied by preventive campaigns. Thanks to an agreement between Kamalbe School and Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, Quetzaltenango, its Dental School helps provide fluoride application, dental extractions, and lectures for children in Xecanchavox. We also assist some parents with minor dental treatment, and all the treatments are free to the children. Even though the dentist professionals donate their time and service, funds are needed to buy medication, gloves, syringes and needles, gloves, anesthesia etc. We really appreciate your help, time, and support of the project for the children in the community of Xecanchavox in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. It costs $800 per year to run the program, so all donations are important to us, no matter the size. All we need is $2.00 per child to cover expenses and to keep the program running. For a donation of $20 would provide services to 10 children, and a donation of $50 would mean you are helping at least 25 children! Please donate now!
2 Nicholas Sponsorship Program - on going support to ensure a child can go to school. In Guatemala, many families are forced to send their children out to work, doing menial labor, rather than allowing them to get even a basic education. A monthly donation of $40US is the best way to help us keep a child to school. This will pay for the school supplies, uniform and shoes, and allow the family a small income to offset the lack of money they would receive from the child's labor. If you become a sponsor we will send you a photo of the child, along with background information on his or her circumstances. You will also receive regular progress reports. And you are always welcome to visit your child in Guatemala! While we welcome individual sponsors, you may wish to team up with family, friends, a school or church, and change a child's life.
Food for the Future Program We know times are tough in the world right now but this is really time for everyone to come together. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for some students to arrive at school hungry, whether due to long walking trips, or parents who just can’t pay for breakfast. There are many reasons why children can go without a healthy meal in the morning. Thanks to its multiple donors, Kamalbe has supported and created programs that support the communities of Xecanchavox and Las Nubes on the outskirts of the community.
Due to the current situation, Kamalbe has created the Food for the Future program that provides children with access to fresh fruit, granola bars or basic grains and other breakfast foods. Kamalbe recognizes the need for nutritional support in local schools. But with schools closed for the foreseeable future, COVID-19 has impacted children who had daily access to a healthy breakfast through the Food for the Future program at school. For some children, the program may be their only chance to have a meal, their only meal of the day. Teachers and the community have always been grateful of the support that has been given to the children and families in the community. Despite the efforts of some authorities, the community has noticed that children have become more vulnerable and food insecure. In addition, due to the recent layoffs and business closings, there is greater financial pressure on the families of these communities since parents are having difficulty providing for their children at this time. The program seeks to respond to the impact of COVID-19 by continuing to help students in need with direct food donations for families in the communities of Xecanchavox and San Martin on the outskirts of Quetzaltenango. The Guatemalan people are facing this crisis on their own and the government is not providing resources to the hospitals and is more focused on rescuing big companies, banks, international bank stores, and restaurants - we have to find our own way to support our families. How you can help: We are donating a bag of food to families with the goal to donate once or twice per month to 50 families registered with us. The cost per bag is $10. You can help us by donating one bag, two bags, three, four or five bags at once.
