Spanish Lessons Reviews!
I had a great experience studying at Kamalbe Spanish School!!
David, the coordinator of the school, taught me himself, and after a month of lessons I can proudly say that my Spanish has improved immensely. I can now understand Spanish more and can even hold a conversation confidently with native Spanish speakers. Kamalbe also provided me with an excellent home stay; I enjoyed living with my host Guatemalan family--Carlos, Jennifer, Andrea--who took good care of me and made sure that I ate right, ate healthy, and slept well (they provided me with a very comfortable room and bed). I never regretted my decision of choosing Xela over Lago de Atitlan and Antigua because of Kamalbe and my host family. If I have the chance to go back to Guatemala and continue my studies, I will make sure to study again in Kamalbe and request to have Carlos and Jennifer as my host family. It was time and money well-spent.

This trip affected my life and answer all of my questions
"The idea of spending a week with 12 strangers scared me, because we will be spending every waking moment together. But, after spending the first day hiking an active volcano and see how willing we were to help each other, I knew that these were 12 amazing people. We were there to “help,” one school the George Mason has been working for years, but instead the kids at the school taught me the importance of human relations and not to assume. This trip affected my life and answer all of my questions, and ensure me that international health is definitely my passion. I recommend everyone to do an alternative break trip at least once. Trust me, it will be one of the best things you do during your time at college. It changes lives in ways you’d never expect."

Great teachers, good prices, wonderful experience!!!
I would highly recommend Kamalbe Spanish School
I would highly recommend Kamalbe Spanish School to anyone wanting to learn Spanish in Quetzaltenango. The teachers are professional, responsable and patient. The prices are the best in Xela. David, the director, is accessible and approachable on a daily basis. He has become a very good friend of our family of five (including three children ages 6, 10 and 13), all of which took Spanish classes at Kamalbe for four weeks in December of 2014. On multiple occasions he personally showed us around the city on foot and in his own vehicle.
My wife and I decided to take our three children out of school to sojourn three months in San José, Costa Rica and our final month in Xela, which was the highlight of our trip. We couldn’t have chosen a better city and school to end our Central American experience! Finally, thank you, Clareti (Spanish teacher of our six-year-old), for taking us to dinner at your family-owned restaurant, which was among the best Guatemalan cuisine we’ve ever experienced! Keep up the great work and we hope to see all again.

Kamalbe allows us to bring in new students each year to live wonderful experiences
My name is Corina Solorzano and I am currently a senior majoring in Global Affairs with a concentration in Internation Development and a minor in Non-Profit Studies. I attend George Mason University located in Fairfax, VA and this is how I learned about the Kamalbe School and have been able to visit twice through George Mason's Alternative Break Program. Over a couple of years now, students from George Mason University have traveled to Quetzaltenango, Guatemala to volunteer with Kamalbe at many schools around the area. Through this program, we have been able to learn a lot about Guatemala's rich culture as well as it's amazing indigenous individuals and continue to maintain an amazing relationship with them and get updates about the kids we have all come to love. With support from our families and friends we have been able to supply the schools with needed supplies, beautification projects around the schools, and educate the students concerning hygiene and other essential topics to live a healthy life. During our stay we are able to stay with families from the surrounding community that helps us in further getting to know Guatemala's rich culture. Our relationship and constant communication with Kamalbe allows us to bring in new students each year to live these wonderful experiences and we hope to continue our relationship in the coming years.

Learning Kiche Lenguage in Kamalbe School
When I was traveling around Guatemala, I understood that the Mayan culture was extremely rich, and I wanted to go deeper to discover less-known layers of this civilisation. That's how I decided to learn a Mayan language. And when I arrived in Xela, I immediately knew it was the perfect place to learn K'iche'. I approached Kamalbe Spanish school, and David was welcoming and professional at the same time, he made an excellent first impression. During my stay, David showed me and other students around town and to nearby typical Mayan villages. He will make sure that you have a nice stay in Xela. My teacher, Nicolás, was an experienced teacher. He has taught extensively in the past, so he knows about the methods of teaching and of course has a great knowledge about the Mayas. One thing I particularly liked is that I told Nicolás I wasn't looking to learn the language on its own, but I wanted it to help me understand the cosmovision and way of thinking of the Mayans; Nicolás understood my request and our classes were divided into language learning parts and open discussion about the Mayan civilisation parts. Which was exactly was I was looking for. I found the experience more than pleasant, the environment was great for learning but also discovering life in Xela. I would recommend Kamalbe Spanish School for anyone interested in the Mayan culture.
"I studied the K’iche’ language for two months at the Kamalbe language school in Quetzaltenango: it was a great experience. My teacher, Nicolás, was a native K’iche’ speaker with many years of experience as schoolteacher in Guatemala and now also working for a couple of years with foreigners. He therefore knew perfectly how to transfer knowledge from one person to another. Thanks to my teacher I learned, apart from the language, also a great deal about the K’iche’ culture and the more broader social situation of the K’iche’ people. We shared a lot of interests and one of these, the Maya heritage, led us to go on a daytrip to explore archaeological remains in the neighborhood of Quetzaltenango. David, the owner of the Kamalbe school, is also a great guy and open for many new ideas. Every week he called me in his office for a quick evaluation: how do I feel about the progress, what am I learning, any suggestions, etc. He knew exactly what was going on with each of the students at Kamalbe. Altogether, Kamalbe Language school provides a great environment to learn or improve languages and I definitely recommend it to everybody."
