Mission: To provide a place for people to learn and an opportunity to teach those in need.
Since 2008, Kamalbe has worked in the rural, indigenous community of Xecanchavox in the province of Totonicapán. Comprised of roughly 500 families, the community relies on agriculture and money sent from relatives working in the United States to provide enough income to survive. The community has been underserved when it comes to education; most adults have only completed primary school education, and kids do not have the materials needed to keep pace with their counterparts in more developed areas. Founded in 2005, Kamalbe Spanish School was created for students who wish to study Spanish at a non-profit school dedicated to education and social justice. La Comunidad School and Community Center provides opportunities for students to study, travel and volunteer in Guatemala. Our goal is to offer an alternative to the for-profit language school normally found in Quetzaltenango and to give students the opportunity to make a difference in a rural community.
