Getting from Guatemala City to Quetzatelnango
After arriving at the airport, you can change some money for immediate expenses for taxis, buses, snacks, etc at the exchange offices.

Traveling by Bus
First-class buses to Quetzaltenango are older yet comfortable buses, similar to Greyhound buses in the United States.
Step 1: Take a taxi to a first-class bus station such as Alamo, Galgos, or Línea Dorada. The taxi ride will cost approximately Q75 ($10 USD).
​Step 2: Purchase your bus ticket to Xela, which also costs around Q75 ($10 USD). Tickets are typically available just before departure. The journey to Quetzaltenango takes up to four hours.
Important Tip: We recommend starting your trip no later than 3:00 PM due to traffic.
Step 3: Upon arrival at the Quetzaltenango bus terminal, taxis will be readily available to take you to your host family or hotel.
